This class is for pre-schoolers (3-5 years old), during the last two months of their mother's pregnancy. Topics covered include how the baby develops during pregnancy, age-appropriate description of the birth process and feelings about becoming a big sister or brother. Parents attend this class with their children. A visit to the maternity unit and nursery, oriented to children, is included in this class.
Children younger than 3 years old are welcome to attend a regularly scheduled maternity unit tour with parents.
If you have both pre-school and school-aged children, we suggest all of your children attend this class together.
For expectant parents in the last three months of pregnancy who have not previously taken childbirth classes. This class is structured to provide opportunities to get to know other expectant parents. Topics include:
challenges, joys and concerns of pregnancy, labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques, care of a newborn, adjustment to your new role as parents, tour of the maternity unit.
For expectant parents in the last 3 to 4 months of pregnancy. This class will address the same topics as the Birth and Parenting Preparation class, with additional time spent on postpartum and newborn topics. Class includes the information covered in breastfeeding. Topics include: challenges, joys and concerns of pregnancy, Labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation and labor support techniques, care of the newborn, adjustment to your new role as parents, tour of the maternity unit, Breastfeeding:getting started, separating facts from myths about breastfeeding, supplies, how to prevent problems and solutions if they occur, introduction to breastfeeding and working, techniques for supporting the breastfeeding woman.

For expectant parents who are sure they are having a cesarean birth or who would like more information on cesarean birth. This class will only cover cesarean birth .
Topics include: reasons for cesarean birth, procedures, medications, hospital and home recovery, partner's role, coping strategies, tour of maternity unit.
This class is intended for expectant parents, grandparents or other infant care providers in the weeks prior to the birth of the baby. Topics will include:
* Basics of child passenger safety
* What is the best type of child safety seat for your child
* How to properly secure the seat and fit your child into the seat
* Minnesota law as it relates to child passenger safety
Class participants will be given an opportunity to sign up for an optional individualized car seat fitting with the instructor. This will be arranged directly with the instructor. There will be an extra cost, payable directly to the instructor.
For parents before or after the baby is born. Grandparents, day-care providers, babysitters and others who assist with infant care will also find this class helpful. Topics include: rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway/choking, and CPR for infants and children. FEE IS PER PERSON
For mothers and their babies in the first four months after birth. Groups plan the agenda at each session. Sample topics include:

Expectations as your baby grows
Surviving colic
Dealing with feelings of isolation

For expectant parents who have completed a childbirth education series with a previous birth. Topics include: review of labor and birth process, review of breathing. relaxation and labor support techniques, update of hospital, medical procedures, adding a child to the family, and a tour of the maternity unit.
For children ages 6 and older, during the last two months of mother's pregnancy. Topics include how the baby develops during pregnancy, age appropriate description of the birth process, and feelings about becoming a big sister/brother. Parents attend this class with their children. A visit to the maternity unit and nursery, oriented to children, is included in this class.
For the expectant teen mother, her partner and/or support person(s) in the last three months of pregnancy.
Topics include: challenges, joys and concerns of pregnancy, what happens in labor, ways of making pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum easier, choices you can make about your labor experience, Community resources that are available, support for your parenting decision, resources for teen fathers, tour of the maternity unit.
For expectant parents who are not taking birth preparation class, grandparents, adoptive parentsand others interested in learning about newborns.
This class will explore the first few weeks of a newborns life. Time will be spent examining how newborn behavior helps parents better understand and respond to their baby.
Other topics include: what to expect from a baby the first few days after birth, how to know if a baby is hungry or sleepy. how to respond to a baby's crying, when is it a good tmie to give a baby a bath?, understanding your baby's health care needs, the attachment process, and resources for new parents.
For expectant parents of twins, triplets or more. This class will spend time discussing the unique needs of families preparing to welcome more than one baby. Topics include: joys and challenges of a multiple pregnancy, labor process, birth options, cesarean birth, medical care and decision making, breathing, relaxation, and labor support techniques, infant care for two or more babies, feeding options, life-style changes/challenges, and a tour of the maternity unit.
