What We Offer

Keeping in Balance offers fall prevention education for groups and fall risk assessments for individuals.

Education
We provide fall prevention education for seniors, caregivers, community members and medical providers.  We’ve listed our most common topics but would be happy to tailor a program especially for your group.

For seniors

  • Before the Fall  - This general program outlines fall risk factors and encourages seniors to address these factors to reduce their personal risk of falling.
  • Aging and Physical Activity - Loss of strength is not inevitable with aging. This program focuses on the benefits of exercise and its role in preventing falls.
  • Taking Care of Your Bones - This program outlines risk factors and the three pillars of prevention for osteoporosis. It includes recommendations for those who already have ospteoporosis.
  • Keeping  in Balance - This program outlines the importance of balance in maintaining you independence and preventing falls. We offer tips for maintaining and improving your balance.

For caregivers
Are you part of the “Sandwich Generation?”  We can help you learn to better care for your aging parent.  In this program, we focus on how to prevent falls in seniors at risk.  A video and booklet for caregivers offers guidelines on moving and transferring someone at risk for falls, as well as how to avoid injury.

For medical providers and senior care professionals
This program is for medical providers and other professionals who work with olders adults on a regular basis. It addresses fall risk factors and interventions, and how to recognize and screen someone at risk, including making appropriate referrals to other health care professionals  and community resources.

Fall Risk Assessments
These free screenings offer a thorough assessment of an individual’s risk as well as practical tips and recommendations to reduce the risk of falls.

In the community
Fall risk screenings, including a comprehensive health history,  medication review, and balance assessment, are conducted at community sites.  Participants are screened for fall risk factors and are given recommendations with written documentation to be shared with their primary physician as appropriate.  Come to one of our upcoming events for your free screening.  We’ll be at:

At your home
We can provide individual risk assessments at your home.  These are the same assessments available in the community with a home safety assessment as well. Recommendations are provided on how to reduce fall risk factors and home hazards are identified.  Referrals are made to other health care professionals and community resources as needed and follow-up is done with primary physician as appropriate.
